Are you looking for the best dog groomers in Newport News? Not all groomers are made equal! Like any other trade, dog grooming skills and abilities can vary widely from person person, and place to place. Dogs can be wormy, squirmy, grumpy, or great, and it takes special people to be able to handle them all. Once you’ve found a groomer you’re confident in, you can make regular recurring appointments with them, and cross one more thing off the to-do list! To help you in your search, we’ve listed our five favorite dog groomers in Virginia Beach.

A Note on Mobile Dog Grooming

We LOVE mobile dog groomers. We find the grooming experience can be very stressful for more sensitive dogs who are adverse to loud noises, crates, or shy of strange people and dogs. A mobile groomer will come to your home in their mobile pet salon! They park out front of your house, and complete the entire grooming process in a space where your dog gets their undvided attention. It greatly reduces the amount of stress they may feel during the grooming process, and provides an element of convenience since you don’t have to transport your own pets.

What should I look for in a dog groomer?

Among the vast array of options, there are certain things to look for when choosing a groomer. You want to make sure they have clean, well-ventilated salons, and dog-friendly products. Whether mobile or permanent, they should have no problem showing you their facilities.

Look for a groomer that offers an array of services. Specialty services may also indicate a groomer who is knowledgeable and experienced. Most dog groomers offer standard services as a minimum including bathing, hair trimming, de-shedding, ear cleaning, and nail trimming.

One of the most important things to know is if your chosen dog groomer carries liability insurance. Carrying insurance is a sign of a true dog grooming professional. It can also give you peace of mind that if any injuries should occur under their care, any resulting medical expenses will be covered. On the same note, you may also ask if the salon has Pet First Aid & CPR training, and if there is a first aid kit on site.
